I'm Not a Total Hum Bug

So, the parents were in town yesterday and hooked me up with some wrapped gifts, so I figured I'd put up the tree. Behold!

Busting out the blue and silver again this year, mostly because they were the first ornaments I came across. Yes, those are blue ball ornaments hanging from the ceiling around the tree. Because that's how I roll.

Christmas....and junk

So, Christmas is in six days. I'm sure I've said this before, but I'm just not into the whole Christmas thing. I STILL haven't even put up my tree, and in fact it seems kind of silly for me to do it now. It's not like I've got any wrapped gifts to put under it anyway. That's not to say that I didn't get gifts for my loved ones, I just didn't wrap any of them because none of them will be at my house on Christmas morning. Instead, my parentals and little sis are on their way to UT this very moment, so we'll be exchanging gifts directly tonight at dinner (at In-n-Out, because where else would you go to celebrate Christmas in America?). I will be making a delicious dinner on Christmas Eve, but Christmas day will be reserved to sitting around watching netflix in my pajamas with the BF. Now that's my kind of Christmas!

The really exciting part of the holidays for me is going to be next week, when I leave Wednesday night for Boise, ID. Going to Boise in and of itself is not exciting (trust me), but I'm excited to see my mom's side of the family all gathered in one place for the first time in YEARS and YEARS, and I'll get to meet my cousins' babies that I haven't met yet (sadly, two of the three I haven't met live in Provo, which is a mere 40 miles away, but I try to avoid that place, for obvious reasons). Plus, my BF hasn't ever been to Boise, so he's (unrealistically) excited to see it. So, I'm looking forward to New Years much more than I am looking forward to Christmas. Though, I am pretty stoked to be inheriting the Rock Band equipment that has been sitting in my parents' basement collecting dust for over a year. And I am stoked for the present I bought myself this year: Dance Dance Revolution for my Wii! Did you know that the first game system I ever bought on my own (the slim PS2) I purchased specifically so that I could play DDR? If that makes me a nerd, then I am most definitely a nerd.

December 25...not just Christmas.

Um....Really?

So, Christmas is on Friday. I won't lie, that kind of freaks me out. It's not that I haven't gotten all of my shopping done (I haven't, but that's not the point), or that I'm so excited about it that I'm afraid it will be lame (which it will, again not the point). It's just that Christmas being on Friday means that New Year's Day is NEXT Friday. 2010 is literally around the corner! If that doesn't freak you out, I don't know what will.

In any case, I did get around to putting up my Christmas decor. I did take some pics as proof on my regular camera, but I didn't bother with my phone. Silly me. I can't upload pics from my camera directly to my work computer, so there will be none of those posted here. However, going through my phone pics I found this:Ah ha! Proof that I did indeed put up my tree. Candy wasted no time investigating. She's been pretty good so far abt not messing with the tree (she just sits underneath it when I'm home). I've only found one ornament on the floor so far. I think she just likes the lights.

Anyway. Also in my scrolling I came across this beauty, which made me laugh out loud yet again:Please tell me that I'm not the only one who thinks this is hilarious. This particular shrubbery "arrangement" lives in Temple Square, along with six others that look just like it... Personally, it made me wonder (after I was done rolling on the ground with laughter) why someone else, over the course of time, didn't look at those and think "Hmm. Those arrangements are particularly phallic. I wonder if that's really such a good idea in Temple Square...." Guess not!

Bah Humbug!

I don't really know why, but so far this year I have not been able to muster any holiday cheer. I even put up some of my Christmas decorations yesterday (most, but not all, of the Halloween decorations have been taken down), and bought my tree, but I just can't feel that excited about it yet. Mostly I'm just aware of the amount of money that Christmas is going to drain from my already-non-existent savings. Luckly I do have pottery to offset some of those costs, but there are still gifts to be purchased. Maybe I just need some eggnog or something because all I want to do is crawl into a cave and hibernate until Christmas (and this blasted cold weather) is over.
