As of last report on MSNBC and CNN and just about every other news station and site in the world, Obama has over 300 electoral votes, which his way more than is needed to win. So, even though not all the votes have been counted, it's safe to say:
OBAMA IS THE WINNER!!!
In case you were wondering, I did bust out the happy dance, followed by a quick jig, and finished off with the ceremonial touchdown dance!
But in all honesty, folks, I am totally relieved that it's all over. I mean, two years of non-stop campaigning hasn't just been hard on Obama and McCain. It has been hard on all of us that were subject to the constant barrage of VOTE FOR ME! DON'T VOTE FOR HIM! ads every where you look...it ended up being more than just a little ridiculous!
Don't get me wrong--it's been pretty awesome just for the plain fact of the matter that we have made history today. The first African American president in history! The first female GOP vice presidential nominee (which, honestly, is kind of sad considering who the female in question ended up being...). It's all very exciting.
What's even more exciting is that we no longer have to put up with the secretive and deceptive Bush Administration! Now, while I'm elated beyond belief that Obama won, I'm not naive enough to believe that he's going to be able to make all of the big changes that he has been touting. Some of the things I'm really looking forward to, though, will hopefully be the first to happen. Withdrawing from Iraq, changing the tax code so that big corporations pay the taxes that they should (no more loopholes for them!), and I'm really, truly crossing my fingers that the stupid "Defense of Marriage Act" is overturned ASAP! (More to come on that subject...)
So, all in all, it's a good night. Not only for me, but for the entire country, I think. Even for those of you who are upset that McCain lost. I think that Obama truly is the change we needed, and hopefully he'll make good on all the promises he made (though he is still a politician, so his trustworthiness is still to be determined...)
