2008 Year In Review

This post has been sitting unpublished in my list for about two weeks now. It's not that I don't want to review 2008, it's just that I have been telling myself that I'll do it later. Well, it's December 28 and there isn't much "later" left! I guess I've been having a hard time trying to think about the past because I'm really just so excited about the future! I'm making an effort though, for the sake of...um...tradition, I guess. =D

This year started out with a bang. Our New Years Eve celebration was fantastic. We kept the awesomeness rolling with the Mardi Gras party,

the St. Patty's day party,

Cinco de Mayo and Jessica's Bachelorette party.

Summer came, and we took advantage! We barbecued and partied, of course (because what else is summer all about?)

A trip to Panguitch and its lake introduced us all to a small town that has a lot to offer. Not only does it have an awesome fishing lake (where you can rent a party barge for $100/day),

but it's also only about 20 miles out of Bryce Canyon!

We're totally going again. Though, it won't quite be the same without our Husteds, who left us for Nebraska in August :(.

I love the water, it's true, so we also made a day trip up to Jordanelle reservoir.

Eryn and Paul got hitched in July.

Shortly afterward, the first weekend of August, we got to have a party in the park for Chris' first birthday!

We also had the great pleasure to visit a little place called Lovelock, NV to celebrate Leard and Jessica's wedding in August.

The fall came on us pretty suddenly this year, and all of a sudden we were back to being lame, busy people. But, of course, that's when work had to get interesting. This year was a very interesting one. Other people, the ones that have more money than I do (which is basically everyone else), would probably use a term more like "devastating." I say interesting because I got to observe a facet of this world that I had never seen for myself. Sure, I'd read all about other stock market crashes and recessions and the Great Depression, but I've never been so acutely aware of the market place and the economy before. I'll say this for my job: it sure has taught me a lot about the world that I live in. I think it's pretty safe to say that the more I've learned, the more I've realized the vastness of the amount of knowledge that I haven't learned.

Also worth mentioning: I fulfilled one of my dreams this year, which was to take a pottery class. I'm totally hooked. I've already scoped out kilns and wheels that I can buy to put in my own studio. Of course, that probably won't happen for a while, so in the mean time I'm content to pay $80 per month to attend class. As cliche as it sounds, pottery is a very fulfilling hobby. I have this weird need to be useful, and pottery allows me to be creative and useful all at the same time! I'm strange, it's true. Anyhow, I love it.

My mom once observed that the fuel meter's needle in her car always moved much faster after it hit the middle. I think the same type of thing happens each year. Time seems to move much faster after the middle. The end of this year totally snuck up on me. I didn't even put a Christmas tree up this year! How lame am I? I've been far to distracted by other things (i.e. the very near and somewhat near future and the current state of the market) to be very jolly this year. New Years is the big holiday in Albania, though, so I'm pretty sure we'll do something awesome for New Years Eve. Nothing has been decided yet (naturally. We fly by the seat of our pants around here), but at this point a party of any kind will be enough to satisfy me!
