And Another Year Goes By.

So it's what? The 28th of August now? Yeah, that's right. I had to check because I haven't been at work in over two months and keeping track of the date is not much of a priority. I guess I'll have to get used to it soon, though, seeing as I go back to work in nine days. Surprisingly, I have few complaints about it. Colt is sleeping through the night, pretty much, so the only thing I have left to worry about is pumping enough milk to get his dad through the first few days. Luckily, since I return to work on a Tuesday, I will only have to work three days in my first week back, unless there is overtime available (and from what I hear about unusually high volumes thanks to the stock market roller coaster as of late, there should be). All in all, I'm glad I've had the time off, but I'm ready to go back.

I'm not that bummed about going back to work, but I am bummed that the summer is ending with an unfortunate double whammy: the pool shuts down next weekend too. I haven't even taken the Baby Boy down there yet :( I'm going to try to get that done this week. He really likes his bathtime, so I think the pool will be fun for him. And for me. But for him more because he needs the distraction. So far walks and the nightly bath will distract him from his fussiness, but that's all we got so far. We'll have to find a pool to go to during the winter. The one at the rec center up the street will probably do fine. It's close enough to walk to at least until it gets really cold.

I'm getting distracted. It happens often these days, and it's mostly due to the fact that my baby boy is so freaking cute that his dad and I will spend hours just watching him, awake or asleep. Just thinking about him, sleeping soundly away for probably not too much longer, gets me distracted. I want to post pictures from my birthday. I'd better do it before he wakes up!

So, usually the Famdamly gathers at Bear Lake around my birthday (and by that I mean I insist that we go with the boat and the rest of them agree because Bear Lake is AMAZING), but this year it was decided that boating with a 6 week old baby was probably not the best idea. Honestly, I was okay with the idea, but that's mostly just because I am still naive about the process it is to take a 6 week old baby anywhere further than down the stairs and into the stroller for our nightly walk.

We ended up picnicking at the park down the street from my house, which was excellent. KFC and 10,000 Tacos to Go from up the street and we were in business. The picture taking commenced once the Baby Boy decided he was going to be fussy and Grandpa volunteered to remedy the situation with a walk around the playground in the stroller:Of course Chris and Tank had to go with him, and Chris may or may not be a total ham. And I may or may not have taken several pictures of Grandpa pushing the stroller, partly because Grandma kept asking if I had a picture and also because it has been a VERY long while since we last saw Grandpa pushing a stroller...There he is again! Actually, come to think of it, I'm not sure I've ever seen my dad push a stroller. No wonder Grandma wanted pictures. I'd say he's got this Grandpa thing down pretty well.

All of my siblings save one were able to make it down, and it seems that all of us now have significant others, thanks to Geoff's new flame, Heather. Unfortunately I didn't get a good picture of them, and Geoff told me they weren't an item, but from the looks of it that would appear to be a lie. She's a cutie, though, and I hope she sticks around for a while. This is pretty much the only picture of Geoff's face that I managed to get.
In case you can't tell, I now have two bearded brothers. Geoff had no qualms admitting that he's copying his older brother's style, but thanks to the honor code at BYU-I, he's probably already shaved it off. And speaking of bearded men, here's mine!
So relaxed, I'd swear he was taking a nap. If only he'd had this kind of help from my nephie poo:
Aunt Shnookie probably got herself into that mess. But it's okay because she repaid the favor with this back-straightening maneuver:It must have worked because this little guy is relaxed!

Of course it is worth mentioning that the newlyweds are as happy as can be. Aren't they cute?
Mostly my sister is just gorgeous.

All in all, turning 26 was not that big of a deal to me. Last year I was determined to party it up for the official passing of my youth as I moved from 24 to 25, but this year I was not so concerned about moving into the dreaded "almost 30" age-range. I'm just grateful that my family was willing to come hang out with me. And as an added bonus, I walked away with a Belgian waffle maker. I call that a success!

B-Day Round Up (minus Pictures)

So, I may or may not have inadvertently infected my laptop with spyware over the weekend, because I am freaking awesome that way. I'll have her fixed up in no time, though (or at least that's what I've been telling myself). In any case, my 24th Birthday was awesome all around.

So, I technically started celebrating a week early, because I thought that I would be in St. George for the actual day. Well, that didn't happen because Baby Paisley Mae was born on Monday, August 17, 2009 at 1:09 p.m., and I didn't want to cramp her grandma's style by showing up too soon. That and I figure that her parents will need me more in two weeks when they haven't slept or showered. So, I had a party on the 15th and it was a blast. Old friends, new friends, vodka...it was beautiful. I did fail with the camera though, seeing as I only broke it out after most everyone had left. I'm fired. I was having a really good time though, so I have an excuse I suppose.

The weekend of I spent with My Husteds on Wednesday night (they were in town from Nebraska, where Byron is going to law school), and then my best friend from back home came to spend the weekend with me. It was awesome. I had so much fun reconnecting with old friends.

I'm having mixed feelings about being 24. I mean, I'm only 24 in all the practical ways, but I'm way past that in all the non-practical ways. I mean...I'm a divorcee and I own my own condo. Who else is both of those things by age 24? No one I know. So I feel old, even though I've barely scratched the "adult" label. Being an adult, I have decided, sucks by default. As MGMT says, I miss the playground and the animals and digging up worms. I miss the comfort of my mother and the weight of the world...

We really are fated to pretend.

oh, and PS: YouTube, I don't appreciate you disabling the embed feature. Seriously, that's not cool.

Bear Lake (Finally)

I finally found the camera cord! Hooray =D

So, here are the pics from Bear Lake the weekend of my birthday. First off, me at the ripe old age of 23! Now onto the real pictures.

Matthew, surfing. The picture is a bit deceiving. He's really like 6'5" or something crazy like that.

The brothers. They are so awesome!

Geoff, busting out the gang signs. Check out the bicepts on this kid!

This is Roscoe. Matt's friend Landon's little pup. And yes, the water really is that blue!

Matthew, hanging out on the tower. Can you see the beard? He was totally rocking it.

It was a wicked good time, even though it was kind of cold and windy. Those brothers of mine are really the coolest kids ever. How did I get so lucky as to have such awesome siblings?

One Year Closer to the Grave...

Think of all the food we'll save...

Come to think of it, I got the regular Happy Birthday song voice mail this year. Strange...

Anyway. It's true. As of last Thursday I officially embarked on my 24th year of existence (that means I turned 23, for those of you who were confused! I know, it doesn't make sense, but that's how it works apparently).

I've found that a common question that is asked around Birthday's is "So, how does it feel?" My answer this year has been the same as it was in the past: "About the same." But, I've been thinking about it and I've come to realize that there are some pretty important things that have changed. Well, perhaps things haven't changed, per say, perhaps I am just more aware of them than I have been.

As I embark on my 24th year, I feel as though my age level is finally catching up to my maturity level. I'm certainly hoping that one day they will be completely in sync, but so far they have always been a few (or more than a few) years apart. Those of you that know me well will attest: I have always been very mature for my age. I'm not exactly sure why that is (though I do hope to narrow down the reasons eventually), but that's just how it has always been. Now, at 23, I don't feel too young to be doing what I do--professionally and personally.

Aside from that, though, I also want to point out that I am happier at this point in my life than I have ever been. I'm starting realize that the benefit of getting older is having the opportunities to make your own happiness. And I am happy to say that I am at a very excellent point in my life currently. I am married to my best friend (lame cliche, I know, but how else do I say it?), I have a decent job that I mostly enjoy ("mostly" being the operative word ;-)), my relationships with my family members only gets better with time (and they, I think, would agree), and I have an awesome network of friends that provide me with as much fun with as little drama as is humanly possible.

I have a strong suspicion that this profound happiness is a direct result of the fact that I recently decided to stop being so critical of myself. As they say, you can't love anyone else until you learn to love yourself. And guess what? It's true. I've spent the majority of my life telling myself that I'm not good/smart/skinny/pretty/etc. enough to be worthwhile. I never realized how much of a toll that took on my physical and mental well being until I stopped doing it. So now, at 23, I've finally begun to accept myself, and it feels fantastic.

So all in all, it feels great to be 23. I can honestly say that getting older is awesome. I can only hope that I continue to be as happy as I am now. If I'm lucky, life will only get better from here, so that on my 30th, 50th, 90th birthdays I'll be able to say that I am happier than I ever was in the past. Here's to hoping!

P.S. I have awesome pics from Bear Lake--They'll be posted as soon as I get them from the camera to the compy.
